My little girl

Mackenzie's my little

fishy face,

lip gloss loving

spunky firecracker.

I'm loving the stage my little 2 1/2 year old is in.
She's so funny and smart and adorable.
We have been having so much fun together lately.

Right now Mackenzie is super into lip gloss.
Did I say lip gloss?
I meant face gloss.
It pretty much goes from her nose to her chin.
And is applied every 2 minutes.
She also insists on wearing a dress
every.single.day.
and brings her baby dolls every where we go.

She's such a girly girl.

Here's a funny Mackenzie story for you guys.

My husband has a couple tattoos.
Mackenzie thinks they are the coolest thing ever.
The other day Mackenzie got a fake tattoo at her friend's birthday party.
She was so excited to have a tattoo like Daddy.
The tattoo held up pretty good for almost a week
then it started coming off.
My little tattoo loving baby girl was traumatized.
Apparently when I put the tattoo on I forgot to mention it was fake.
She totally thought it was permanent
and was really upset that it wasn't.

What are you loving about the stage your kids are in?

Why I love Etsy

Etsy is a land of handmade awesomeness.
There are so many cool vendors
who make things you could never find in a big name store.

The other day I was browsing Etsy when I came across this.

so totally random, hilarious and awesome all at the same time.
Perfect for my friend Cyndi who is obsessed with this video and this song.
Thanks to her, my daughter walks around the house singing
"double rainbow all the way across the sky..."

Oh Etsy, what would we do without you?

A Day in the Life of...

the Sellars' family

Last Wednesday
I woke up in the morning,
grabbed my camera
and documented our day
exactly how it unfolded.
The good, the bad and the ugly.

I thought it might be fun for you guys to see how we spend a somewhat typical summer day.

I'd love for you to do "a day in the life of" your family post as well and link it in the comments.
It might be fun to get a peak into each other's daily lives.

Here we go...

6:30 a.m. Mackenzie wakes up (earlier than usual) and sneaks into our bed to cuddle.
Even though this is way too early for me I soak up all the cuddles I can get.

6:45 a.m.- Little man wakes up.
As you can see, Wesley is not a morning person either.
He's usually a little grumpy in the mornings
(I wonder where he gets that from?)

Since the kids are up I realize I should probably get up too :)
We all go into the family room
to watch a little Veggietales
while we (I) wake up a little more.
I told you I'm not a morning person.
It takes me at least a half an hour
and a cup (or 2) of coffee to fully wake up.
It's horrible, I know.

7:45: Breakfast time!
Wesley's our little piggie.
If there were food eating competitions for babies
he'd totally win.
His food is always gone in 60 seconds.

Mackenzie's my breakfast girl.
She usually wants waffles for breakfast but today she went with "Daddy's cereal"
A.K.A. Coco Puffs.

8:05- I clean up after breakfast while the kids play.
I usually try to keep up on the dishes throughout the day
(we don't have a dishwasher)
so they don't get too out of control.
Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
Today it did :)

8:15-8:30- While the kids are playing I get dressed and ready for the day.

8:30-
Quick clean up of the family room.
It still blows my mind how our house can go from neat and tidy to a total disaster in mere minutes.

Pick up 7, yes seven, blankets in the family room alone.
Did I mention Mackenzie loves blankets?
Apparently she never wants to be more than an arm's length away from a blanket (or 7) just in case she might need one at a moments notice.

After the clean up I let Mackenzie
pick one thing for us to play with.
She chooses her super cool doll house.

This awesome Little Tikes doll house was actually mine as a kid.
My mom just found it in the attic a month ago and let us take it home.
Score!

While the kids are playing nicely together I sneak off to get a few things done.

While I'm multitasking, trying to ship off these pretties to a friend who just had a baby and am on the phone trying to get tickets to a kid's concert that night, I look over and find Mackenzie

decorating herself with stickers.
Lol. At least it's only stickers.
I'll take stickers any day over pen, diaper rash cream or Vaseline.
Silly girl.

9:45- Water our flowers and garden.

10:05- Pack lunches, get the kids dressed and sun screened and do another quick clean up before we leave for a fun day at the lagoon.

The master cup bandit in action.
Wesley steals Mackenzie's drink every second he can.
It didn't take him long to figure out her cup usually has something better in it than his.

P.S. The dark colored substance in the cup above is Mackenzie's favorite "green juice" (I think it's officially called Green Plant) from Trader Joes. My kids love it and it's super healthy.

The drink bandit is also a professional escape artist.
He tries to sneak out of the house multiple times a day.

I think we are finally ready to leave for the lagoon.

10:40- Leave for the lagoon.
Realize I forgot something.
Run back in the house.
10:45- Leave again. For real this time.

11:15- Get to the lagoon!
Play with friends, swim, eat lunch, get sandy, talk with other mommies.
fun.fun.fun.

1:30- Leave lagoon.
Kids are out cold by the time we leave the parking lot.
The sun and the sand always wear them (and me) out.
Transfer them to their beds when we get home.

Yay! Nap time!
2:00- Quick shower.

2:15- Time with Jesus.
2:50- The kids are still asleep and I'm exhausted so I lay down for a quick nap.
3:15- Kenzie wakes me up. I'm not sure if I ever fell asleep, but at least I got a quick rest in.
3:20- Wesley wakes up.

It it just me or does nap time always seem like the fastest part of the day?

3:25- Play with the kids and manage to get a few things cut out for an order.

3:50- Give the kids a bath.

4:20- Kids are dressed and clean!
Today Mackenzie insisted on wearing the ugliest thing in her closet.
(By ugliest I mean just not my taste).

This picture totally captures what goes on in our house most of the day.
Mackenzie tickling and trying to play/torture Wesley.

The cup thief in action again.
I promise I give him drinks too.

4:30- Make dinner.
I was just feeding the kids tonight so I made their favorite
mac and cheese.

5:05- Wash dishes and get ready to take Mackenzie to the Jana Alayra concert!
5:30- My dad and Mom come over to watch Wesley while we are at the concert.

I don't know what we are going to do when we move to New Zealand.
I love having my parents close by!

6:20- Arrive at the Jana concert.
Mackenzie was so e.x.c.i.t.e.d.

She could hardly handle the anticipation waiting for it to start.

7:00- Concert starts.
Mackenzie was in heaven.
She loved it so much!

The Jana concert ended up being great and it was so fun for Aaron and I to have some alone time with Mackenzie.
I think that's the first time we have gone out just the 3 of us since Wesley was born.
Mackenzie was so wiped out from the concert she fell asleep in the car on the way home.

It was a jam-packed busy yet super fun summer day!

What's a typical day in your family look like?

Growing

I'm hooked on gardening.
I still don't know if I'm any good at it
but I'm convinced it's pretty much the coolest thing ever.

It's so exciting to watch things grow
and even more exciting when you know you played a part in it.

The kids love it too.
Mackenzie is my watering buddy.
She loves to "help" water the plants but I'm pretty sure it's just an excuse to get wet.
She usually ends up soaked by the time we are done :)

We are finally getting something edible!
Here is one of our first cucumbers.

How cute is our little watermelon!

We have made quite a few yummy salad's with our lettuce.
It's been one of the easier things for us to grow.

Tomatoes!
My friend and I bought a ton of tomato plants knowing we would use them on a regular basis.
They are all just now getting ready to harvest.
Yay!

Even our topsy turvie is producing some fruit.

This baby is our pride and joy!
He is our giant, humongous cherry tomato plant.
It's taller than Mackenzie

and is jam packed with tomatoes.

Yum!

One lesson we have learned with our garden is that good soil is super important (Duh, right?).
This is the front of our house.
See the small planter that goes around our windows?
It had tons of pretty flowers in it.
When my friend and I started our garden we ran out of room in the actual garden (below) so we stuck a few herbs and two tomato plants in with the flowers.

Come to find out our tiny planter with the flowers
is THE prime soil.
See mister giant tomato on the right hand side?
Yup he lives in the tiny planter below my windows.

Our big garden with ALL the rest of our veggies and fruit
has the not so good soil.
Of course it worked out that way :)

Do any of you guys have gardens?
What are some tips or lessons you have learned?
What are your favorite things to grow?
