I hate cleaning.
Hate it.
It's never on my radar.
It's totally not natural to me.
And I'm not good at it.
Not at all.
My husband is the opposite.
He is neat and orderly.
And good/efficient at cleaning.
Messiness makes him crazy.
Although I think our cleaning differences have a lot to do with our personalities
I think it also has to do with the fact that
I grew up doing NO chores and
he grew up helping out around the house.
We've decided for lot of different reasons
we want to teach our kids to do chores and to help around the house.
But since this is definitely not my strength
I'm looking to all of you neat freaks
(I say that in the nicest way. I wish I was a neat freak myself)
for some help.
How does your family do chores in your home?
Do you have some sort of chore chart?
Do you have your kids do the same chores every day or do you rotate chores?
Do you have a cleaning schedule for yourself?
I think I might be more into doing chores if I had a mommy chore chart.
There's something so satisfying in being able to check things off.
I'd love to hear your ideas!
Here are some ideas I found around the blogging world.
My husband and I are JUST LIKE you and your hubby. Cleaning does not come naturally or easily to me. I've found that trying to clean one room or one area every night (I also have a full time day job), then it's not so overwhelming. Good luck. Thanks for sharing the tips you found, too!
ReplyDeleteMy kids aren't quite old enough to be helpful with chores yet (my 3 1/2 year old has some "chores" but her execution of them isn't always helpful and frequently requires more work on my part, but I want her to get into the habit of helping out), but when I was a kid, my mom would write the chores that needed to be done (Saturday morning was "cleaning day") on the whiteboard. We'd write our name by one chore. Once it was finished, we would pick another chore. The thing was whoever finished first got to pick the "good" chores and wouldn't be stuck with the less desirable jobs (think: doggy duty).
ReplyDeleteFor myself, I like to have chores assigned to myself by the days of the week. So Monday is Laundry Day, Tuesday is Bathroom, etc. That way if I get behind (which is bound to happen!) I can get back on track by what day it is instead of feeling overwhelmed and letting it go even worse.
I'm a neat/clean freak struggling to keep it up with three kids. I don't think my tips can fit in the comments box.
ReplyDeleteMy family is just like yours, I'm not a clean person my husband is super tidy, and we want to teach our daughter how to help around the house. Luckly she really enjoys helping with household chores and regularly helps with laundry, emptying the dishwasher, cleaning up her toys (this is much more of a struggle for some reason) and feeding the pets - and she's not quite three yet!
ReplyDeleteAs for myself I've tried using the FlyLady system as well as organizing my own system (I found this helpful: http://super-kate.blogspot.com/2009/08/super-organized.html) but never seem to be able to stick with something.
