Mackenzie's beanie

I first learned how to crochet when Aaron and I lived in Brazil for a few months. While we were there and once we got back, I made a bunch of scarves but I haven't crocheted anything in at least 3 years. Then the other day I was browsing etsy and I came across the cutest toddler and baby beanies EVER. Being the crafty person I am, I had to try to make one myself. After many times of starting it, ripping it all out and then starting it again I finally finished Mackenzie's first beanie! I think it turned out really cute (just a little big) but there are a few improvements I'll make with the next one (oh and there will be a next one!). Since this beanie I have been crocheting like crazy. I forgot how much I like it! Right now I am working on 2 (different size) baby boy beanies for baby and a pair of ballet shoe style slippers for Mackenzie. I'll post some pics when I'm finished.

Almost 15 months!

In a few days Mackenzie will be 15 months old! It is so fun watching her personality continue to develop. She is our little firecracker who is full of so much energy and who loves to be the center of attention. She almost always has a smile on her face and loves to laugh and make others laugh. She bring so much joy to our lives!

Mackenzie is also talking up a storm these days. She just started putting words/sentences together and loves to say, "What's that?" and "Where'd it go?" (while holding up her hands and shrugging her shoulders). She also loves animals and knows the sound to every one. It's so neat (and makes parenting easier) to be able to communicate better with her.

Here are some pictures of Mackenzie over the past month.

First time with pigtails. They were so cute and she actually kept them in all day!
Playing in her log cabin in the back yard
Playing with some beads

Mackenzie has become even more obsessed with blankets lately (I didn't think that was possible!)

Boy names

So now that we know we are having a boy we want to figure out a name for him. I hate calling the baby "it" or "he" now that we know it's a boy. I'd so much rather call our little man by his name, so now all we need to do is decide on one. We have pretty much narrowed it down to two so I thought I'd post them on here and get some feedback from all of you. Let me know what you think :)

The Names:
Wesley
Caleb

Frankenstein scar

Last night, per doctor's orders, we took off Mackenzie's bandage she has had since she got out of surgery. The removal of the bandage was a traumatic experience in itself (I think worse for Mackenzie than the surgery itself)! And once we took the bandage off we got to see the HUGE incision that was under it! When the neurosurgeon talked to us after the surgery I specifically asked him how big he had to make the incision and he said, "Oh, it's not bad at all. About this big (and he held up his fingers about an inch apart)." Well the incision is at least 2 inches long and looks so massive on her little baby head!! But the good news is that the incision was made behind her hair line so when her hair grows back it should cover it completely...hopefully! My poor little girl!

The good news is that Mackenzie doesn't seem to mind and is her happy self

Mackenzie's Surgery

On Monday we headed to CHOC children's hospital at 7:00 a.m. for Mackenzie's surgery.
When we arrived we checked in, got Mackenzie all ready, answered lots of questions, talked to the pediatric neurosurgeon and just waited until her surgery at 9:00.
The hospital and nurses were so great! They kept Mackenzie busy and happy playing with toys and bubbles. Once 9:00 rolled around they took Mackenzie away for her surgery and Aaron and I went into the waiting room. After an hour, the surgery was over and the doctor came out to tell Aaron and I that everything went really! They were able to remove the cyst completely and Mackenzie did great!

Mackenzie got a little medical bracelet and me and Aaron got matching parent ones.

This was Mackenzie in recovery after her surgery. Aaron and I were both able to go in there for about 20 minutes and then Aaron had to leave and I stayed with Mackenzie until we left the recovery room. It took her about 20 minutes to wake up after the surgery. Once she was up she just wanted to be held but didn't cry or anything. She was very brave!

Once she tolerated keeping down liquids (which was really fast) and the nurses were sure she was stable we left recovery and went back to the short stay room we started in. She got looked over by more nurses and was finally given the okay to go home. Mackenzie was such a little trooper! She did so well and all the nurses kept saying she was the best baby and so happy. We are so thankful for her and thank God that she is happy and healthy!
