Randoms from my week

Here are a few snippets from my week.
Enjoy!

Is she not the cutest thing ever?!
Madelyn had her 2 week check up this week and has already gained a pound and grown and inch since she was born.

Looking back in the rear view mirror and seeing moments like this makes my heart melt.

sleeping baby = happy mama

The boy had a complete tantrum because I would not let him pick up the dog poop.
Yes dog poop.

coffee..my life line.

They love her.
a lot. a lot.

Tomatoes are actually growing on our tomato plant!
Happy day!

The woman's retreat with my church was
powerful. restful. and overall amazing.
It's so cool to sit back and watch God work.

Every time I look over at Madelyn she has a new toy next to her.
Wesley loves to share his toys with his baby sister.

* smile *

Thanks Kourtney for sharing your fun outfits with us!
Since Kourtney is the queen of thrifting I also asked her to share a couple thrifting tips with us.
Enjoy!

************
Practical tips for thrifting/scavenging...

1) Do not forfeit quality - It is often tempting for me to overlook quality in a piece, especially when it is something especially cute/desirable. This is never a good idea and not a way of adding sophistication to your wardrobe. Quality thrift store finds should not make you look like a ragamuffin (as my mom calls it).

2) Use your imagination - When I'm looking through the racks, I often find it helpful to imagine the piece integrated into an outfit I already have. It is definitely worth trying on if you already own things that would go well with it.

3) Stick to your own style - I say this, not in order to discourage taking chances. I just want to remind women that trends come and go, but your own style should be founded on things much more personal than fads. Try to reflect who you are, your interests, passions, heritage, influences, etc. Those are what I find to be inspire the most satisfying ensembles.

4) It's okay to not find anything - Do not be discouraged if you don't leave with an entirely new wardrobe. Unlike other shopping experiences, thrifting doesn't have to be about the ending result. Just enjoy your time, laugh at the eighties jumpsuit and marvel at the intricate wedding dress. More than not, thrifting evokes good feelings and memories from our own lifetime and before our time.

Great tips!
If you love Kourtney's fun style as much as I do be sure to check out her blog and leave her some comment love.

Coupon Mania

We haven't had cable (TV) in over a year.
For the most part I haven't missed it a bit.
In fact, I have really enjoyed not having it.
It's nice to be able to spend the evenings doing something more productive and mind provoking then vegging out in front of the tube (although I do enjoy that too).
There are occasions however where not having TV makes me feel totally out of the loop.
For example, I pretty much don't know anything that is going on in the world (which might not be a bad thing).
I was also probably one of the few people that didn't watch the Royal Wedding or the season finally of Survivor.
Anyways, while I was in the hospital having Maddie I was able to catch up on a few things going on in the world of cable TV.

One of those things was the new(ish) TLC show called Extreme Couponing.
It is basically a show that follows people who take couponing to some pretty extreme measures.
They spend hours and hours a week collecting and organizing coupons and then they take huge trips to the grocery store where they get hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of stuff for free or next to nothing.

On the episode I watched one lady got literally thousands of bottles of Propel Fitness water for free.
A bit excessive for sure.
But totally awesome.

I have no plans of becoming a crazy coupon lady but the show has definitely got me thinking about looking through the ads in the Sunday paper.

What are your thoughts on couponing?
Do you know of any good coupon resources (blogs, etc)?

Dear Madelyn

Dear Madelyn,

From the first time I laid eyes on you my heart swelled.
You were so beautiful.
So teeny tiny.
So perfect.

It was instant love.

You already have your Daddy wrapped around your little finger.

He is head over heels in love with you.
You are his little princess.

You have only been here for a few days
but you have already filled our lives with so much joy.

I can't wait to watch you grow and to help shape you into the woman God has created you to be.
I'm so glad I am your Mommy!
I love you baby girl!
----------------------------------------------------

Here are some more pictures from the hospital and Madelyn's first couple days home.
Enjoy!

Mackenzie was so excited to meet Madelyn!
She takes her role as big sister very seriously and has already assumed her role as "Mini Mommy".

Wesley is a proud big brother!
He loves to give Madelyn kisses and her pacifier.

I still can't believe we are now a family of 5!

She is just so pretty!

pure. joy.
They couldn't stop smiling!

I love this picture of Wesley.
He looks so grown up.
It's crazy to think he's not the baby anymore.

sweet dreams

precious

We just got some Aiden and Anais swaddling blankets the other day.
I think they can be added to my list of baby essentials.
They are awesome!

smiling :)
