Maddie's first

I can hardly believe it.
Actually I'm kind of in denial.
But whether I like it or not
my baby's turning one.

So to celebrate we are having a little birthday party.
Because you only turn one once (thank goodness).

A girly butterfly party to be exact.

For my littlest girly girl.

Oh how I love her!
Now someone make her stop growing please.

Cars Birthday Party Invitations

I can't believe my little man is going to be 2!

This year Wesley's birthday party is going to be super simple.
Partially because he's only 2 and won't know the difference but mostly because we are moving the week after his party!
Since Wesley loves Lightening McQueen and Mater we decided to have a Cars party.
And since the second movie is currently in the theaters it made finding Cars themed accessories so easy (bonus!!)!

Even though Target had some cute fill in the blank Cars invitations I opted to make my own invitations instead.
There's just something about personalized invitations that seem extra special.
Plus these were so easy to make I'm pretty sure they took me less time then it would have taken me to fill out the other kind of invites by hand.

I was able to buy some Cars themed Chipboard pieces in a pack from Michaels (in the scrapbooking section)

along with this piece of scrapbook paper which I used to spell out "Wes is 2".
Then all I had to do was type up the party details in Word, print, cut and glue everything to a piece of red card stock and voila....
a cute "master" invitation for my little man.

Then I took my "master" invitation down to Staples and had them make color copies of it for me to send out.
Easy peasy.

Princess Birthday Party Invitations

On Friday my baby girl turns 3!
And I don't think I've ever met a kid as excited about their birthday as Mackenzie is.
She's been waiting for December to finally come for months, practicing holding up her 3 fingers to show off her soon to be new age,
and talking about her party non stop for a long time.
And as long as she's been excited about her birthday she has been excited to have a princess birthday party.
A pink, girly, glittery, princess party for my very girly little girl.

And since no store bought card would do
I whipped up some special (but super easy) ones for my girl.

This year I went the super easy route.
I made one master copy of the invitation and then made color copies for the rest.
I don't know why I haven't done this in the past.
It saved so much time and still turned out really cute!

Here's how I made them...
I found an adorable princess themed piece of scrapbook paper at Michaels a few months ago I knew I wanted to use for her party.
Since the entire piece of paper would have been too big, I cut out a smaller section that included the elements I wanted to have.

Then I taped the scrapbook paper to a piece of card stock to make it more sturdy while I assembled the rest of the invitation and also so it would be easy to copy.

Next, I printed the party info on blank paper and cut it out so I'd have an idea how I wanted to lay things out and the font size I needed before I printed on my good paper. I also cut out a crown and a star from paper and a picture of Mackenzie I wanted to include.

Then I printed the party info on a pretty polka dot paper, cut the star and crown out of scrapbook paper, added some ribbon for the base of the wand, and used some scrapbook stickers for Mackenzie's name. Then when everything was perfect (or perfect enough) I printed off the color copies and then cut them out to the correct size.
Easy peasy!

The only bummer was that I made my invitations an odd size and I couldn't find envelopes to fit them.
So I had to make my own.
They ended up being simple but a little time consuming.
Here's how I did it.

Step 1:
Cut out a piece of large paper (I used wrapping paper) a little wider and almost 3 times longer than your invitation.
Lay your invitation on the paper to use as a guide. You want to make sure the bottom fold
almost covers the top of the invitation.

Step 2:
Fold in and tape the sides so they are a little wider than your invitations.

Step 3:
Fold up the bottom of the invitation until it reaches the top of the invitation and tape the sides closed.

Step 4:
Fold down the top of the invitation and tape closed.

Slip in your invitation, address the front and your good to go!

More princess party details and the favors I made to come soon!

Surfer Invitations

Wesley loves the beach.
loves it.
Actually I'm not sure if he loves the beach
as much as he loves the sand at the beach.
he eats it.
plays in it.
l.o.v.e.s. it.
He pretty much looks like a sand covered corn dog every time we are there.

So when I was brainstorming themes for his first birthday party
I knew there was really only one logical choice.
The boy needed a beach/surfer themed party.

Here are the invitations I came up with.
They are all ended up being a little different.
I couldn't decide which style I liked the best so I made a few of each.

First I printed the party info onto white card stock,
cut surfboards out of scrapbook paper,

and then I added a little sand to the bottom of some,

a little ric rac (to look like water) on some others

and I even left a couple plain and simple.

Stay tuned for more details as they unfold!

Baby Shower Invitations 2

Remember all those baby showers I was telling you about?
Well I finally got around to posting the second set of invitations I made.
This time I used a fun hot pink and white fabric to make diaper invitations.

To make them I...
cut a diaper shape out of fabric,

hot glued the tabs to keep it together,

printed the party info onto some card stock,
added a little ribbon to the top
then slipped them into the fabric diaper.

Easy and cute!

Baby Shower Invitations

It's baby time!
Pretty much every one of my closest friends are pregnant.
Seriously.
It's crazy how many babies are coming.
And lots of babies means
lots of baby showers!

Here's one of the recent baby shower invitations I made.

A little fabric, ric rack, and buttons
with stitching for the legs

Check out some similar ones here and here.

So many fun things you can do with them!

Super cool invites

The other day I received these amazing invitations for my cousin's wedding.

They are right in so many ways.
Fabric...yes please!
Teal and Orange...one of my new favorite color combinations
And to add the perfect touch they are sewn together

It's like they were made just for me :)

You could also take this idea and make your own super cool birthday, baby shower, etc. invitations.

Just get some medium to heavy weight fabric, cut it into squares (or the shape of your choice) for the background, print up some fun wording with all the party details on card stock, and then stitch together on your sewing machine with a contrasting thread.

Now if only I had a party to plan...
