Boo Boo Bag Tutorial

If your kids are anything like mine they are constantly getting hurt.
Whether it's from tripping over a toy or running into a table ouchies are a common occurrence in the Sellars' household.
Thus the boo boo bag.

The perfect sized wheat (or rice) filled bag sure to make your child's ouchie feel instantly better.

Supplies:
Scrap fabric
Wheat or Rice
Scissors or Rotary cutter
Fabric pen

*Whole grain wheat can be found in the bulk food section of your local grocery store.

Cut two 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch pieces of fabric. Pin and sew right sides together, leaving an inch or so opening.

Flip right side out through the opening and iron flat. Fill boo boo bag with rice or wheat until bag is 3/4 full. Top stitch opening closed and viola...your done!

Now pop your boo boo bag in the freezer so it will be ready when an injury occurs.

Boo Boo bags can also be microwaved in 30 second intervals to soothe away an upset tummy or sore muscles.

Love the idea but don't want to make one yourself? Head over to my shop and pick one up :)

My have to make some of those. Maybe they will replace the constant need for band aids, LOL

I have made these with feed corn (the kernel corn that you get from a feed store in 50 pound bags) & they work the same way. You can stick them in the freezer, or pop them in the microwave for 3 minutes for a nice heat pack in the winter. I love them!

Do you have to use whole wheat rice? I've wanted to make something like this for a while, but not sure if all rice will work the same in freezer or microwave.
Thanks for this tutorial I love it! They are also perfect sizes for those dumb pregnancy belly pains. (my sister used one for after birth pains down low too)
Thanks again!

White rice should work great too!

should you double the fabric so it is not so thin when using quilting fabric?

I just used regular cotton and it worked great. You could always double it up though if you want it to be extra sturdy.

When making these bags you need to use 100% cotton fabric and thread if you are going to put it in the microwave.
